CORONA VIRUS OUTBREAK.

Our efforts at University of Exeter, Medical School to communicate and inform the public.

As scientists we must include good communication as a part of our armamentum. During major incidents, local, national or international, there will be considerable anxiety with people worrying about their health and well being. The added tension is that it is very easy to produce realistic sounding fake news, thus it is even more important to communicate well, communicate consistently and with clear messages.

Equally, it is important for scientists to raise concern, if required, however, the overall responsibility is be scientific and measured in our messages.

I am very privileged at my University of Exeter, Medical School where we have been very busy, doing our public duty in communicating and reassuring the public about the #Corona Virus Outbreak.

I see that measured tone adopted, with much care and attention to detail, as well as giving me the freedom to raise issues for debate and consideration.

The news clip from BBC Points West TV, grasps the essence of our message well, communicating these matters in a few words, being reassuring as well as adhering to the science.
