New Zealand has voted to legalise euthanasia

A important topic, euthanasia. End of life care, what can we do. Listen to my analysis and conclusions on the way forward.

My view is we invest in and provide excellent end of life care, such that the request to also terminate life early becomes a rare event. There is no absolute answer and I cannot say we refuse to involve any other additional interventions ever.

As clinicians, we all know that in caring for the dying and terminally ill, if we provide good pain control and care, patients can naturally die and the painkillers help them along.

Instead of not talking about it we should discuss these matters extensively and dispassionately.
