Pfizer / BioNTech SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine discussion on BBC Radio 5 Live. Q&A 02 12 2020
BBC 5 Live Coronavirus Q&A. 02-12-2020 1810hrs.
The mRNA vaccine is a specific vaccine, has one job to do, produce SARS-CoV-2 spike viral proteins and its job is done.
The Coronavirus spike protein is recognised as alien by the immune system and the immune system hopefully makes immune memory.
The immune response is to make antibodies and activate T cells which go around neutralising the virus when it is presented to a immune person.
We can control how much spike protein the vaccine makes and thus how immunogenic the vaccine is going to be.
The body’s cells thereafter degrade and neutralise the mRNA.
Thus it does not interfere with the cell’s DNA or do anything else.
We have to tell politicians to take a back seat and allow experts to tell the story and how people may protect themselves. Take the people with them, in the hands of experts not politicians.
