Michael Gove has announced a delayed return for some secondary school pupils

Rising case numbers & hospitals working at full capacity imply that it will be prudent to delay schools reopening & increase the closure period beyond the one additional week announced by @michaelgove.

If the #SARSCoV2 is more infectious & disease causing in school children we must be prepared to teach safely. Important to acknowledge that children can get infected and may be drivers of infections in other age groups too.

Variants of viruses are expected to emerge and the #Coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2 is no exception. The variants, creating new lineages, thus far are not more disease causing, they may be more infectious but this too needs to be fully proven. In any case more infectious or not, the important point is to keep up on excellent infection control measures and not get infected. Do not get infected and do not infect others. Life saving vaccines are around the corner.

The current vaccines ought to also work against the new variant strains of the #Coronavirus#SARS-CoV-2 virus.
