Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine deployed in the UK

Conversation on @BBCRadio2. Thank you @theJeremyVine great conversation.
We can rapidly immunise large numbers of people with available vaccines. Using the excellent immunisation infrastructure we have and scale it up. Important to also follow up people for post vaccination evaluation.

In making best use of the available vaccine, I would immunise as many as we can with the 1st allocation and then immunise with 2nd dose once further supplies arrive this way a much bigger population is immunised partially and then fully in a given time.

Post vaccination it is not the greenlight to give up on infection control measures, Protection form SARS-CoV-2 is a multi layered approach. Undertake and continue with all current infection control measures and the vaccine is an additional positive measure. Only once we know that the virus is not in extensive circulation, that the vaccine is working well, with good long term immunity, can we relax on current infection control measures.
